Willow Industries’ ozone-based prevention & decontamination service acts as microbial kill-step creating safer cannabis and a stronger supply chain
OAKLAND, Calif., August 21, 2020 – After a successful six-month trial of its WillowPure service in Watsonville, California, Willow Industries, the leader in cannabis and hemp prevention and decontamination technology, is pleased to announce the opening of its non-extraction-based cannabis remediation facility in Oakland, Calif. The WillowPure Processing Center will provide the state’s cannabis producers with an organic and low-cost option for cleaning cannabis.
The new1,200 sq. ft. facility located at Embarcadero Cove near the Harborside dispensary, enables the company to clean up to 40 pounds of cannabis per day using its patented WillowPure controlled-ozone system. The process removes harmful microbes without degrading the essential medicinal and chemical properties of the plant; it has also proven to extend shelf-life.
“As one of the first cities to embrace legal cannabis, Oakland has a flourishing market with no shortage of growers looking for a streamlined and convenient way to eliminate mold and other microbial contaminants from their cannabis,” said Jill Ellsworth, Founder & CEO of Willow Industries. “We’re excited to bring our organic kill-step and remediation service to small growers in California, as they are often the most pressed by hefty taxes and burdensome regulations. The processing center helps protect their bottom line by saving flower that would otherwise need to be destroyed, all while maintaining the quality and flavor customers deserve.”
Ozone can be used as a microbial kill-step early in the production process to improve the pass-rate of harvests going through initial testing or as a means to remediate flower that failed initial microbial testing. For clients that have failed an R&D or state compliance test, Willow Industries will complete and submit a detailed remediation plan to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), working closely with the regulatory authority to secure plan approval.
“In California, growers are only required to test for one kind of mold—Aspergillus— which has been known to cause severe infections if inhaled by consumers with a weakened immune system,” said Ellsworth. “This increases the likelihood cannabis with traces of mold or bacteria is reaching dispensary shelves in California, putting the health and safety of consumers at risk. With WillowPure, growers can offer their customers peace of mind beyond the standard certificate of analysis.”
With a per-pound pricing structure the WillowPure Processing Center is the most affordable, non-extraction-based remediation solution available. Growers also have the option to lease or rent the WillowPure systemsto use as needed within their facilities.
“We’re so glad we found Willow Industries. We’ve saved over a dozen pounds of flower with WillowPure and they’re always super easy to work with,” said Mario Barajas, Operations Manager at Green Lift Distribution.
