Frequently Asked Questions

General

  • What is the WillowPure?

The WillowPure is a proprietary, patent-pending machine that produces pure ozone gas for the purification and decontamination of cannabis, namely flower and trim. The WillowPure was designed to prevent and decontaminate mold, mildew, yeast, E. Coli, Salmonella, and Aspergillus. Time and concentration for each specific pathogen has been tested for accurate degradation.

  • What is Ozone?

Ozone gas is triatomic oxygen (O3), a naturally occurring form of oxygen. The third oxygen atom makes the ozone molecule highly unstable, which is the key to its oxidizing power and its ability to kill a variety of bacteria, including E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella, fungi, yeast, oils, organic chloramines, MRSA. That instability is also what controls biological growth of unwanted organisms much faster and more effectively than traditional disinfectants like chlorine and hydrogen peroxide.

One of ozone’s most positive characteristics is its natural ability to degrade back to oxygen. For this reason, ozone technology, rather than heat pasteurization, has become popular in agriculture and in various food and plant applications.

Ozone applications are recognized as safe and effective when applied properly, and are compliant with the FDA, USDA, OSHA, NSF/ANSI Standard 50 and UL lab standards.

  • Is ozone hazardous?

Exposure to high levels of ozone can be hazardous. Thanks to the WillowPure’s lock and seal system, no ozone is able to escape when in use. Once the machine has completed its cycle, the gas naturally degrades back to oxygen in approximately 10 minutes. Further, a destructing device inside the machine pulls in any remaining ozone and immediately converts it back to oxygen. Additionally, the safety lock will not disengage until the concentration inside the machine has reached safe levels.

In following with FDA and OSHA measures, we recommend standard safety procedures when working with ozone, including the use of gloves, as well as protective gear for the body, face, and eyes.

  • How much of the product will fit inside the WillowPure?

The Standard WillowPure system has two racks, each with 17 shelves. In total, both racks can hold between 18-20 pounds of product when flower or trim is evenly dispersed on the shelf in a single layer. Applying multiple layers onto the racks is not recommended, as this can reduce needed airflow.

The WillowPure High Capacity is double the size of our Standard WillowPure. This machine has 4 racks (17 shelves on each rack) and holds 38-40 lbs. per run.

  • When should the WillowPure be used?

For best results, flower and trim should be cleaned in The WillowPure just prior to packaging or conversion into edible ingredients. For greatest effectiveness and to reduce the risk of cross-contamination, it is also recommended that the product first be cured and dried in a clean—or even a sterile—environment. A damp product—any flower or trim with moisture levels above 11%–will make the WillowPure technology less effective.

  • Can I market my product as WillowPure tested?

Dispensaries are encouraged to use the WillowPure logo on any product that has been purified with our technology and tool, and to let consumers know that any use of this symbol in connection with a retail product represents an assurance that that product is clean and safe from pathogens and microbials.

  • Will the WillowPure hurt terpenes or lower potency?

The WillowPure does not degrade overall terpenes and potency.

  • Will the the WillowPure affect a product’s smell?

A residual ozone smell will accompany the product immediately after it is extracted from the machine. This smell subsides in a few days as the process of residual ozone converts back to oxygen.

  • Does the WillowPure degrade pesticides?

While this product is not to be used for destroying/covering up illegal use of pesticides, our early studies have shown an approximate 30% reduction of pesticide residue, specifically among Bifenazate, Imidacloprid, Myclobutanil, and Spiromesifen. However, more research needs to be done to prove the effectiveness of the WillowPure in helping to degrade pesticides. In the future, we hope that our system can help remediate trace pesticides from contamination drift and HVAC systems as well.

  • What are the power requirements?

The WillowPure Standard uses 110 VAC and pulls 7-10 Amps. The WillowPure High Capacity uses 120 VAC and pulls 12-15 Amps.
